FedEx is one of the most reliable ways to land an hourly job fast in the US. Package handler roles hire year-round with flexible shifts, no experience, and no degree, and the network ramps up hard from October through December. Pay runs from about $16 to $23 an hour depending on the division, full-time roles carry benefits and tuition reimbursement, and the handler badge is a clean path toward courier and driver work. Here is how it all fits together.

Where FedEx hires hourly workers
FedEx runs three networks that hire hourly: Express (air and time-sensitive), Ground (everyday parcel), and Freight (heavy LTL shipping). Each has its own hubs, its own pay band, and its own shifts.
What FedEx package handlers and drivers earn
Package handlers run roughly $16 to $21 an hour at Ground and $17 to $23 at Express, with California, New York, and Washington hubs paying more because of state wage laws (some California Express hubs reach $21 to $26). Dock workers and couriers sit in the low-to-mid twenties, and CDL Class A drivers top the hourly scale. Full-time roles add medical, dental, vision, a 401(k), and tuition reimbursement.
The physical reality before you apply to FedEx
⚠️ Honest read: a sort shift is fast and physical. You will lift and move packages continuously, often in hubs that are not climate-controlled, and the sort windows run early morning or late night. Casual handlers under about 24 hours a week may not get benefits unless state law requires it. Know the shift, the division, and the employment classification on the listing before you say yes.
